Happy Veteran's Day and thank you to all who have served for our country! Jumping into it, that line of dense cloud cover along Western Tennessee are the showers we'll see this afternoon and evening. These will be moderate to even a bit heavy at times for some, but not anticipating much to any lightning or hydro issues. This will clear out tonight, leading to partly cloudy skies Friday. A second front will then push through tomorrow night, bringing a very small chance for showers/sprinkles for those closest to Kentucky. Much cooler air will also tail the second front tomorrow night, bringing highs in the 40s for nearly all. Overnight lows will also be quite chilly with some in the 20s and the remainder of us in the 30s. We will gradually warm back up as we work toward the mid week next week. That will wrap it up for today, I hope everyone has a safe, dry, and wonderful day. We'll have more on those temperatures, potential for a few flakes late weekend, and the warming up expected next week, tomorrow. Pre-recorded for 5pm show

Another quiet day is in the works with more sunshine and warm temps. This changes tomorrow as a series of cold fronts make their way across the Volunteer State. A line of showers will push through Thursday afternoon/evening, followed by cooler air. A secondary front, this one without precipitation, will work across late Friday, bringing reinforcing cold air to the area. Looking at overall totals with this system, its nothing too impressive. With that said, we could see some locally heavy rainfall along and ahead of the front. I am not expecting any major hydro issues with this system, as it will be quick moving and out by Friday morning. Overall rain totals will round up to half an inch. After well above average temperatures through today, Mother Nature flips the script. Two cold fronts will bring below average temperatures. Highs Saturday will struggle to top the 50 mark, leaving most in the mid and upper 40s. This will be anywhere from 10-15 degrees below the norm for this time of the year. These temperatures will continue Sunday and into early next week as well. Veterans Day looks to be a wet one so have those umbrellas handy during the afternoon. A few isolated showers can't be ruled out early, otherwise things will be mostly cloudy. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
With above average temperatures the first half of the work week, how will this pan toward the middle of the month? Well, a swing back toward below average can be expected. Confidence continues to rise on this solution and we'll get our first taste of that this weekend. Oppositely, after a very wet year so far, so look to pivot towards a drier forecast mid-month. This could be concerning towards drought & fire related conditions, so we'll keep a close eye on this over the next couple of weeks. Warm and dry conditions are expected through tomorrow, before a cold front sweeps across the Eastern CONUS, bringing moderate rainfall and much cooler air. This front is expected to bring rainfall the latter half of Thursday, with a few lingering showers, particularly along the east, into Friday. Much cooler air will then follow for the weekend. Enjoy the temperatures and conditions now. With the passing front, highs in the 40s and low 50s can again be expected Saturday and Sunday. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good late-morning to all! It has been gorgeous thus far and that trend will continue, not only this afternoon, but also into Tuesday. A look at the Stansfield Webcam below shows not even a cloud in the sky. High pressure is locked in just to our north and east, leading to pristine conditions. With high pressure in place warm temperatures will also funnel into the area. Looking at the official forecast from the National Weather Service, highs Tuesday and Wednesday will top out in the 60s to low 70s. Similarly, lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s tonight, and low to upper 40s overnight Wednesday. How do these temperatures compare to our normal average? They are well above the norm, with some locations around the region upwards of 15 degrees above average. Knoxville typically has an average of 62 for this time of the year and highs Wednesday could reach as high as 72 for Knoxville and surround valley locations. Though we aren't near record highs, it is still noteworthy. Changes arrive Thursday as a front brings cooler air along with showers. Highs will make a return to the 40s and 50s this weekend as showers begin clearing out Friday. For now take advantage and enjoy these wonderful conditions! Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good morning! Quite a few hazards are in place this morning. To start, the valley is under both a frost advisory and a dense fog advisory (both run through 10am this morning). For the surrounding area: Northern valley, Plateau, foothills are under a freeze warning & dense fog advisory until 10am as well. Looking at the latest drought map, things have stayed idle with abnormally dry conditions remaining in place along the far southwest. With little rainfall over the next 5 days, we could see these drier locations expanding. Speaking of little rainfall, check out future trends. Dry conditions can be expected now through at least mid week next week. High pressure will shift eastward, setting along the eastern CONUS and bringing warmer than average temperatures along with plenty of sunshine. Be sure to take advantage of the conditions. Pleasant temperatures along with sunshine will hang around through the weekend and into next week. Temperatures could even hit the 70 mark for some next week. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good morning! As promised, there is some light snowfall falling in the highest peaks of the Smokies. This shot comes courtesy of the Newfound Gap Cam. A light dusting can be seen on some of the trees and grassy surfaces. This will continue on and off today as a weak disturbance drifts east (from our south). Here across the valley & plateau, temperatures will warm this afternoon to be again in the upper 40s and low 50s. Currently a few alerts are out. Across the valley (light blue) a frost advisory in effect. Similarly, purple indicates a freeze warning. Both are set to expire over the next hour or two. With the added cloud cover last night and into this morning, most didn't get quite as cold as the NWS may have expected. Nonetheless, with clearing skies tonight, Friday morning will likely be the coldest start we've had to the new cold season. Lows will be in the 20 to low 30s, with a few of the valley locations in the mid 30s. As a result, a frost advisory is in effect for valley locations with another freeze warning across the higher & cooler terrain. After a brief sprinkle or two through early this afternoon, we change to a dry pattern. High pressure will edge in from the north and west, gradually increasing temperatures and keeping mostly sunny skies in the forecast. Highs by next week could be as warm as 70! That will wrap it up for today....I suggest you wrap yourself up in the morning, as it will be pretty chilly! (pun intended) Sunny skies and warming temperatures will then follow. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
We start off the morning chilly, as temperatures across the board are in the 30s. Comparing this with the higher peaks of the Smokies, Newfound Gap currently sits at 29 degrees (elevation ~5000ft). Expect similar conditions the next few days, as cold air funnels in from the north. Some higher elevated areas (Plateau & foothills) could even end up in the 20s Friday morning. For today, cloudy skies will hang around with afternoon highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Guidance continues to back off on the idea of showers late tonight and into Thursday. The lack of upper level support and moisture with this feature indicates shower chances will be very low, with the best opportunity along the Georgia border and the Smokies/bordering North Carolina. Nonetheless, a few sprinkles to very light isolated activity can't be entirely ruled out tomorrow. Snow also remains possible for the higher peaks (2500ft+) in the Appalachians. Impacts should be minimal with a light dusting on grassy/elevated surfaces at best. Following a few sprinkles tomorrow, we trend toward a dry pattern, with lots of sunshine and warming temps Friday and into at least early next week. With high pressure building in across the Upper Plains, the clockwise flow is allowing for cold and fairly dry northerly air to filter into East Tennessee. This has led to cooler temperatures to start the morning and will continue for the day today as well as Thursday. We are anywhere between 5 and 10 degrees cooler this morning that this time yesterday. Friday looks to be our coolest start this week and likely of the new cold season altogether. Most will likely deal only with cloud cover today and tomorrow, along with cooler than average temperatures. A dry trend then finds us late work week, weekend, and into next week. Temperatures will also rebound as a result. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Most are dry this morning, but a few may be seeing a few light showers to sprinkles. This is part of a weak upper level disturbance pushing to our north. This is expected to clear out over the next couple of hours, leavening partly to broken skies this afternoon. Highs remain on the cool side, in the mid 50s. Moving forward, our next best weather maker is on Thursday. Showers will impact mainly the southern half of the area and into the Smokies. We have lowered shower chances as a result, with the better setup and activity south of the state. Nonetheless, a few showers will still remain possible through Thursday, with some snowfall not out of question in the high elevations of the Smokies Thursday evening/night. This could be the first frozen precipitation of the new cold year, but minimal impacts can be expected as little to no population are in these areas. Stretching out longer term, temperatures appear to make some recovery. The CPC suggests temperatures to flip back near to even slightly above average for next week. Precipitation however is planned to be below average. We will see the start of that later in the work week, continuing into next week as well. Hit and miss sunshine will be present today and tomorrow, before a chance for light showers on Thursday. Temperatures will be chilly throughout the period, well below average tomorrow and Thursday. We begin rebounding toward warmer conditions Friday and through the weekend. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good morning! Patchy fog is present across the Volunteer State, so use caution during the morning commute. This will lift out by mid morning, leaving partly cloudy skies and pleasant temps (mid 60s). Advancing forward, some changes are in store. Namely, more rainfall and much cooler temperatures. Breaking this down, a system will provide isolated showers Wednesday, before a front pushes through on Thursday. Widespread rainfall, followed with much cooler air will arrive during the day. Comparing temperatures Thursday afternoon to those of the norm for this time of the year, we are expected to be much cooler. Anywhere from 15-20 degrees of a difference is expected across East Tennessee. So what do highs actually look like on Thursday? Well.....Cold (at least for this time of the year). Most will be lucky to get out of the mid 40s, as cloud cover will likely hamper too much heating during the day. Overnight lows Thursday into Friday will also be chilly, in the low and mid 30s for most and upper 20s for the higher elevations. That four letter frozen word: s-n-o-w can't be ruled out for the higher elevations of the Smokies. Though it'll be all rain for the vast majority of us, some light snowfall will be possible for the 3000ft elevation and above. Cooler air sticks around for Friday as well, before we gradually warm into this weekend. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
