Short and sweet for the start of the work week....spotty showers will be possible through the morning, before drier and clearer conditions find us by this evening. We will be dry and a touch above average tomorrow, before our next rain maker arrives Wednesday and into Thursday. Showers will generally be isolated to scattered with this one, with a few thunderstorms possible during peak heating. By Friday, high pressure will fill back in bringing the warmest temperatures we have seen so far this year. Highs will run from the upper 80s to low 90s, where a few spots could even find the mid 90s. Check out our video forecast (below) for more details. Highs today will top out in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Good morning! Another pleasant day today, with highs topping out in the low to mid 80s. A low working in from the east coast will bring showers in from the east, eventually combining with a low working in from the west. This will bring isolated showers/storms Friday, before becoming more scattered Saturday and Sunday. Another pleasant start and day in the works. This view is over the Newfound Gap area of the Smokies (9 am). As we work through the day, mostly sunny skies can again be expected. Highs will be a touch warmer, topping out in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees. With ridging remaining in place, dry conditions will continue through at least tomorrow. A low sitting off the east coast will retrograde, bringing the return of isolated and scattered showers Friday and this weekend. This will combine with a sweeping cold front, which will bring the best opportunity for rainfall Sunday and Sunday night. Overall though, the next 7 days will be relatively dry. The Weather Prediction Center suggests rainfall totals through next Wednesday of around half an inch. The bulk of this will come this weekend, where showers will be relatively scattered in nature. A few thunderstorms will also be possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening. That will do it for today, enjoy another beautiful day filled with sunshine and warm temperatures!
Good morning and what a beautiful start to the day it has been! Temperatures are currently sitting in the upper 50s, with sunshine expected to hang around today. Temperatures will remain on the warm side, topping out in the low to mid 80s. As we get into mid week (Wednesday), temperatures will continue their climb. Looking at the comparison to average temperatures for this time of the year, we will be running 5-10 degrees warmer. The average high in Knoxville for early to mid May is 78 degrees. With that said, highs tomorrow will be running in the mid to upper 80s. I would not be shocked for a location of two to break the 90 mark either. Longer term, the Climate Prediction Center suggests we stay near to slightly above average temperature wise, while near to slightly above normal precipitation can be expected. For all you Ag folk, it looks like we have finally passed our cold dips and planting season can officially begin. Not to worry though, many folks have had a late start, and there remains plenty of time this year. Enjoy these above average temperatures and sunshine, before showers and isolated storms return Friday and the weekend. Don't forget to give us a follow if you don't already! Good morning! After a very active end to the work week last week, we start this one calm, warm, and quiet. Satellite this morning depicts only a few high clouds streaming through and some patchy valley fog. As we push into this afternoon, mostly sunny skies will return with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Moving forward this week, there are little changes that can be expected. Highs will generally average above the norm, with temperatures Wednesday and Thursday 5-10 degrees above average. Some could even see the 90s before days end too. Altogether, high pressure will look to keep things warm and mostly clear the next couple of days. The one exception will be Thursday and onward, where an isolated shower/storm could arrive in the afternoon. Most will look to stay dry through. That will do it for now! We go almost opposite to the rainfall/storms we saw nearly every day last week and stay mostly sunny and warm this week. Have a good one and go out and enjoy this weather! Pre-recorded for 5pm show
A severe threat will remain through this evening with all hazards possible. There have already been severe warnings (including a tornado warning) this afternoon. Activity will weaken overnight, with a few lingering showers in for Saturday. Check out the latest below and be sure to give us a follow on Twitter/Facebook for updates. Good morning! Patchy fog is showing up across portions of the valley today, but will quickly dissipate over the next hour. Looking ahead, a stout low pressure system will be working east, providing the chance for strong to severe storms Friday. The SPC has highlighted a slight risk for the southern half of East Tennessee, where all threats (damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes) will be possible. The timing for these will mainly be during the afternoon to early overnight Friday. Taking a look at model guidance. A low will sit just to our north, while a cold front drags east Friday. This will be the focus for activity along and ahead of this boundary. In addition to the severe threat, locally heavy rainfall will also be possible, especially in locations that see several rounds of rain or in strong thunderstorms. Drier conditions will eventually prevail, with sunshine returning by Sunday afternoon. Following the active stretch this weekend, temperatures will look to drastically warm back up. The WPC is suggesting above average temperatures next week, and rightfully so. We anticipate highs in the mid to upper 80s, with some locations likely in the low 90s early to mid week. For now, our eyes are peeled on the severe threat later in the week. We will continue to keep you updated on this, with finer details (timing, rainfall amounts, strength/threats) coming tomorrow and Friday. Until then, be weary of this of the threats and enjoy the partly cloudy skies and seasonable temperatures we at least have for today. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Cloud cover will increase through this afternoon, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight and into early Wednesday. This will be along and ahead of an approaching cold front, which could provide the development for a few strong storms. Overall, the severe threat is very low. As far as temperatures today, highs will top out in the low and mid 80s. In addition to the warm temperatures, it'll be breezy out of the southwest. Winds gusts, as highlighted by NWS Morristown, will range from the 20s to near 30 mph. Don't forget to tie down any loose outdoor objects before you head out this morning. Our second system will push in late Thursday, bringing widespread showers & thunderstorms throughout Friday and portions of Saturday. Things will then begin dwindling down Sunday, with drier conditions returning early next week. Rainfall amounts will be much more significant with this second system, so we will keep a close eye on any flash flooding/flooding threat that could be possible. A few strong storms will also be possible Friday and Saturday. Showers will primarily arrive overnight and into early Wednesday, before cloud cover partially clears tomorrow afternoon. Dry weather will hold into Thursday, before showers then return late in the day. Highs now and through the weekend will generally be warm, averaging near to above seasonable norms. For those heading out this morning, be weary of patchy fog. Overall, it will be a pleasant day and our only real dry day of the week. Two systems will look to target the Volunteer State, bringing showers and thunderstorms at times tomorrow through the weekend. Breaking it down first, showers will overspread the area tomorrow afternoon and continue into Wednesday morning. A brief reprieve from activity will find us the later half of Wednesday, before another disturbance tracks in later Thursday and through the early weekend. Overall, the severe threat is low (at least with round 1) but a few strong storms can't be ruled out. Temperatures throughout will generally be near to above average in the 70s to 80s. As far as rainfall amounts this week, we can expect anywhere between 1 and 2 inches in total. This will provide a good soaking rain before things dry back out later in the weekend and into next week. Looking further into the extended forecast (early to mid May), things look to veer back to near seasonable norms. This is the case for both precipitation and temperatures (which we average mid to upper 70s). Overall, keep the umbrellas handy this week. Showers and storms will begin to arrive tomorrow afternoon and into the overnight as a cold front tracks through the area. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
