Good Thursday morning! Temperatures are cooler today with the clearing we saw overnight. Tennessee is averaging a difference of 8 degrees since this time yesterday. Some of the higher elevations were under a frost advisory last night, but warmer temperatures are ahead. High pressure will continue to nose in from our north and west giving us the pleasant and importantly warm conditions we have been waiting for. This afternoon through Saturday will stay dry with temperatures gradually climbing each day. By Sunday, a wave and warm front will bring isolated to scattered showers for the day and again into Monday. An afternoon thunderstorms can't be ruled out each day. Overall, the trend is finally of Spring. Temperatures will continue to warm through early next week with a few showers toward the end of the weekend and into Monday. Take advantage of the pleasant and dry conditions and don't forget to submit pictures to SecretCityWx@aol.com or by tagging us on Twitter/Facebook. Pre-recorded for 5pm show

Good morning, a few scattered showers are working across the area this morning. The bulk of activity is along the southeast and into the Smokies. As the day progresses, anticipate this to clear out with broken cloud cover the remainder of the day. Clearing (cloud cover) will gradually persist through the evening and into Thursday. As for weather highlights ahead, there isn't too much to discuss. A large area of high pressure will continue to settle across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, bringing dry and warming air. Winds will shift out of the south and we'll finally get temperatures much closer to the norm by late weekend and early next week. Once light showers work out today, we will stay dry through Saturday before another chance for isolated to scattered showers return late Sunday and into the new work week. As promised, warmer air is on the way. The latest from the CPC suggests above average temperatures returning nation-wide as we near the mid to latter part of the month. Precipitation will remain near to slight above average. The target location for the higher rain amounts will be along the Panhandle of Texas as the southern jet stream finally makes it northward push for the warmer months. As always, we'll keep you posted! For now, look forward to the warming temperatures and the brief dry phase we'll see Thursday afternoon through Saturday. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
A gorgeous view over the Smokies this morning as fog begins to dwindle out with the rising sun. As we progress through the morning, sunshine will continue to stick around with highs this afternoon around 70 degrees (give or take). Cloud cover and cooler air Wednesday will knock temperatures back down into the low/mid 60s. If we compare this to the norm (average) for this time of the year, some locations will be 15+ degrees cooler than what we are used to. I promise we'll eventually kick the winter can down the road (especially later this month), we have just been locked into a dynamic pattern early to mid Spring. For precipitation the next several days, a system to the south looks to bring in moisture for parts of Wednesday and Thursday. A low working across the Panhandle of Texas and a front just to our south will provide isolated to scattered rain both Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Rainfall totals look limited with a few hundreds of an inch possible area-wide. By Friday, high pressure will fill in from the north, bringing sunshine back to East Tennessee and temperatures much closer to average for the weekend. Enjoy the day...though temps remain below average, we have rebounded a bit from yesterday and with sunshine overhead it should feel rather pleasant. Some cloud cover and showers will be possible tomorrow and Thursday before better conditions return Friday and Saturday. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good morning to all! Even with the heavy showers yesterday, temperatures were finally near the norm for this time of the year. Unfortunately, today tells a different story. As you can see below, a cold front continues to progress to our east, leaving the state 10 to 15 degrees cooler than this time yesterday. That will be the trend through much of this week, as highs won't return to average until late weekend to early next week. Overall, the weather pattern this week will be somewhat quiet. Drier air will funnel in this afternoon, leaving sunshine for Tuesday. A brief "shortwave" (area of energy) will bring shower chances late Wednesday and into the day Thursday (isolated to scattered), otherwise we remain mostly dry. Sunshine will again find its way in for Friday and high pressure is set to dominate the Tennessee and Ohio Valley late in the work week and early in the weekend. We made it short and sweet today...for more information, check out our video forecast below or visit the "Weekly Forecast" tab for a graphical outlook. Have a good one! We are starting the morning off with a little cloud cover, but overall nothing that won't clear out by late morning. As we progress through the day, sunshine will be the main feature but clouds do make a return by tonight and into the weekend. Checking out the afternoon temperatures, highs will be a bit cooler today. With the passage of a cold front (now to our east), highs will range from the low to mid 60s. We do rebound by Sunday afternoon with highs nearing 80 degrees. This will be short lived though, as another cold front looks to blast through bringing cooler air Monday and much of the work week next week. Looking at model guidance, a brief shower is possible for counties bordering KY tonight, otherwise most stay dry. Cloud cover increases through the day tomorrow with isolated showers in the afternoon. Better rain chances arrive for Sunday with a few thunderstorms mixed in as well. That continues into Monday before once again drying back out Tuesday and early Wednesday. Overall, the pattern ahead is active. Multiple rounds of weather makers will impact the region today through next week. Cooler than average air will also continue to haunt us with the exception being Sunday due to a warm front moving across the Tennessee Valley. With that said, enjoy what dry weather we have today and into tomorrow before showers and storms arrive Sunday and Monday. Have a great weekend and don't forget to check out our daily video forecast below. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
It has been a pleasant day so far with plenty of sunshine. As we progress toward the evening, cloud cover (associated with a weak cold front) will pivot in from the west. A few isolated showers to sprinkles will be possible with this overnight and early into Friday. Other than the light and brief activity, sunshine will make a return by tomorrow afternoon. With a cold front working through tonight, temperatures will be again on the cooler side Friday. Knoxville averages highs in the mid to upper 70s and will likely be 10+ degrees cooler than that to wrap up the work week. Anticipate temperatures staying below normal for the next 5-7 days. Looking at guidance, a brief system will bring a few isolated showers (mainly in Kentucky) tonight and Friday morning. Following, high pressure will dry things out Friday afternoon and early Saturday, before another (and better) round of showers arrives Saturday evening and through the day Sunday. A few showers will linger into Monday before gradual clearing midweek. Overall, the next several days will be a mixed bag of sunshine and rounds of shower activity. Saturday looks to be the best day of the weekend with cloud cover increasing through the day and a few isolated showers possible in the afternoon and overnight. Sunday should be cloudy with on and off showers (and a few storms) possible. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
We are quite a bit cooler than we were this time yesterday thanks to a cold front just to our east. We have also begun to dry out with only a few lingering light showers along the Smokies this afternoon. High pressure sits just to our west and will bring, overall, drier air the next few days. With the heavy rainfall we picked up yesterday and the higher than normal amounts we have seen so far this year, Tennessee remains at normal, with no signs of any dry or drought related cases. Looking into the future, I fully anticipate this trend to continue as data suggests above average precipitation through at least mid to late May. It is notable to mention a system near the Great Lakes will swing through late Thursday bringing the opportunity for isolated light showers/sprinkles Thursday night and early Friday morning. This will obviously bring some cloud cover as well, but am expecting sunny skies to return by Friday afternoon. Our next real rain maker doesn't arrive until the second half of the weekend with showers and a few thunderstorms possible Sunday afternoon. We will close by saying another cool trend is expected over the next week or so. Temperatures will be cooler than average tomorrow and Friday but also again next week. We aren't anticipating frost/freezing conditions, but am expecting cooler than average temperatures. We'll keep you posted, but for now, enjoy improving weather conditions. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Hopefully you are staying dry and safe this afternoon, it has a been a busy and active morning. The NWS in Morristown has issued several severe thunderstorm warnings across the Southeast and also has issued a flash flood warning for Hamilton, Sequatchie, and Marion counties until 2:15 pm this afternoon. Looking below, these "weather hobbiest" rain gauge totals show upwards of 2+" for Chattanooga and surrounding towns. Overall, the valley has picked up between 0.5 and 1.25" this morning. We will release a better graphic with more official totals tomorrow, but it at least gives a general idea of the rainfall we have picked up so far. The latest surface map depicts a low making it into Western Tennessee this evening and a low draped across the Southeast. Severe weather will then shift to states like Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia the later half of today. As for us, another round of showers and storms is possible tonight, before needed sunshine returns tomorrow afternoon and ahead. Looking at model guidance, another round of showers and storms will likely impact us this evening/night. Luckily, with the strong convection we saw through the morning, a lot of that energy is gone, so strong storms are less likely. Guidance is also suggesting a northern shift in activity, which will likely leave the northern Plateau and into Kentucky with the heavier activity. Nonetheless, stay tuned for additional alerts as we work towards sunset. As mentioned, a cold front will clear things out Wednesday afternoon with cooler temperatures to follow Thursday and Friday. You can check out the full 5-day forecast under the "Weekly Forecast" tab above. Please share any reports you may have. We have seen ponding across parts of Knoxville and flooding in areas of Chattanooga. Those reports help us get an idea of what's going on and where, and we can pass that information to the NWS and other viewers! Stay safe and tune in for any updates or alerts that we may have the second half of today. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
Good afternoon! Scattered showers and a few isolated storms are working through the valley early this afternoon. This trend will likely continue as a system just to our southwest works northward. We will likely see a bit of a lull towards the evening and overnight tonight, before heavy showers and storms arrive for the lunch time hours tomorrow. The timing of this falls between 9am - 1 pm. Additional showers and storms will be possible later in the afternoon, but we are expecting the strongest activity during the late morning timeframe. As you can see below, dark oranges, reds, and even purples fill the area as clusters of storms work through. To re-emphasize the potential for strong and severe storms tomorrow, the SPC has placed most of East Tennessee under a Slight (2/5). Additionally, Chattanooga is within the Enhanced (3/5) risk. The main threats through the late morning and afternoon will be damaging winds and large hail, though a few isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out. Further west under the enhanced region, damaging winds, large hail, and a few strong tornadoes will be possible. Be weather aware through the day tomorrow and have a way to receive alerts if watches and warnings are issued. Locally heavy rainfall will yet be another issue we will have to face tomorrow. A marginal risk of flash flooding is in place both today and tomorrow with a slight risk outlining our southern border. Rainfall amounts are expected to be between 1-2 inches with higher amounts (specifically across the SE) as high as 3+". Tomorrow will likely be active between the severe weather risk and flash flooding issues we could face. We'll continue to provide updates, but have a way to receive alerts from the National Weather Service and local officials. Pre-recorded for 5pm show
